The 360 supports as of now 720p and 1080i. It all depends on what the game was intended to use. If the game was made for 1080i then it will look best at that resolution. Same with 720p. If the game was intended for that resolution then thats the resolution to set the dashboard to. Now with an update to the dash the 360 can easlily display 1080p. I have played oblivion on 720p then I have played in on 1080i. Being since Oblivion was made to utilize 1080i it look very very noticably better runnin at 1080i. Everyone can do their own test and see for themselves. Change the dashboard and try both resolutions. Its very obvious. Now, Perfect Dark on the other hand looks better at 720p. Its made for that. I agree with almost everything you said. BUT...one thing you got wrong is with the 360 being native 720p. That is not true. The 360 may run optimal at 720p depending on the source/game, but its not native 720p. Thats what people have been saying but When I talked to Microsoft Execs personally they informed me that it depends on the game. If on the back of the game it says 720p only. Then that is the best resolution for that particuloar game and the 360 dash should be put to that. But...
I agree. Its a shame. I have friends who will only play PC games and they truly think that no console can match their PC's. Its a funny thing because I get them to come over and check out the 360. Call of Duty 2 is a good example of a game that was made for the 360 then ported to the computer. The 360 version looks better. The textures look amazing the smoke effects, explosions, all running smooth without a hiccup. But what really gets people excited is the surround sound and the comfo...
That makes sense with the smaller monitor size...because when I hooked my computer up to My 61 inch hd tv the game doesnt look as good as the 360 version. Its got to be the size of the monitor that makes it look sharper to the eye....But, then again...I'm one of the ones that thinks the 360 version looks the same on my 61 inch samsung dlp tv as the computer version does on my 21 inch princeton computer flat panel display.
